The present disclosure provides systems and techniques for identifying gun events. A gun event may include a nominal event, such as the discharging of a projectile or the ejecting of a cartridge shell, or an anomalous event, such as a misfire or a failure to feed. An apparatus may include a sensor that measures motion of a gun along multiple axes. The apparatus may identify a gun event based on the measured motion of the gun satisfying a motion condition. The motion condition may include an acceleration threshold value, and the measured motion of the gun may satisfy the motion condition based on a measured acceleration value exceeding the threshold acceleration value. The apparatus may transmit an electrical signal based on the measured motion of the gun satisfying the motion condition. The electrical signal may reset a charging circuit, increment a shot count, or decrement a round count.

A training munition assembly for use with a weapon includes a case, a first firing element, and a release assembly. The case defines an interior cavity. The first firing element is disposed within the interior cavity. The release assembly is coupled to the case and engages the first firing element. The release assembly is configured to cause movement of the first firing element from a first position within the interior cavity to a second position within the interior cavity responsive to actuation of the release assembly from outside of the case. Movement of the first firing element is configured to generate a firing signature that is indicative of actuation of the release assembly.

A method of firing a firearm includes providing a blank firing adapter plus bullet trap attached to the end of a barrel of the firearm, the blank firing adapter plus bullet trap including a bore aligned with a longitudinal axis of the barrel; providing a magazine that limits loading of up to two live rounds; and arranging for a blast from a cartridge in the firearm to eject a shell casing from the cartridge and automatically operate the firearm to insert a new cartridge from the magazine into a chamber of the firearm.
