An apparatus and methods are provided for a handgun stabilizer that enables a shooter to very accurately fire a handgun while remaining well protected by a ballistic shield and looking through a bullet resistant viewing window comprising the ballistic shield. A high visibility green laser sight/high output white light illumination system may be mounted onto the handgun for aiming and illumination, with the handgun being precisely and removably mounted to the side of the handgun stabilizer at a location where the handgun's grip can be ergonomically grasped in the shooter's dominant hand, both for operating the handgun and for controlling the position and orientation of the ballistic shield for aiming purposes. An interface that enables the handgun to be precisely and removably mounted to the handgun stabilizer may comprise a quick-draw holster that is mounted directly onto the handgun stabilizer.

A hydraulic recoil device for a handgun or pistol is provided. The device includes a cylinder defining an interior hollow compartment having a first end and a second end. The device further includes a first resilient member; a piston assembly arranged adjacent to the first resilient member and at least partially within the cylinder, where the piston assembly includes a piston head, a piston rod, and a piston cap; an accumulator arranged within the cylinder; and a second resilient member outside of the cylinder. The piston assembly is configured to remove an initial jolt in a firing cycle with a hydraulic resistance and the second resilient member is configured to provide recoil reduction after the initial jolt in the firing cycle. A method of reducing recoil in a handgun or pistol is also provided.

A receiver assembly for a handgun. The receiver assembly includes an upper receiver portion, a lower receiver portion, and a locking mechanism. The upper receiver portion includes i) a guide rail for receiving a slide assembly and ii) a magazine compartment for receiving a magazine. The magazine compartment defines a magazine insertion direction, and the magazine is pushable into the magazine compartment in the magazine insertion direction. The lower receiver portion is slidable onto the upper receiver portion in the magazine insertion direction. The locking mechanism is configured to couple the lower receiver portion to the upper receiver portion. The locking mechanism includes a locking element that is structurally independent. The locking element includes a contact projection and a locking projection. The contact projection form-fittingly engages with the lower receiver portion and the locking projection form-fittingly engages with the upper receiver portion.

A handgun wedge stabilizing brace (“HWSB”) comprising a stabilizing body and a support member which can be removably connected to a handgun. The stabilizing body braces the handgun against the shooting side of the front of the user's front torso below the shoulder and stabilizes it by being introduced between the side of the user's body torso below the shoulder and upper arm. One end of the support member is telescopically receivable into the stabilizing body and can be adjusted to the desired position by the user. The other end of the support member is removably connected to the rear end of a hand gun, particularly a heavy pistol. The handgun wedge stabilizing brace improves shooting control and stability when using a handgun, especially for one-handed shooters and individuals with a disability.
